Idleness is
The lover of death. ```Idleness is
The host of death. ```Idleness is
The death-night-distributor. ```O idleness,
You are evilFrom the sole of your foot
To the crown of your head. ```Idleness,
You torpedoGod's Dream-Boat.
```Idleness,
You ruthlessly compelLife-energy to starve.
```Idleness,
You desire the stars in the skyTo be at your beck and call.
```Idleness,
You are the mind-butcher,You are the heart-puncher,
You are the vital-crusher,You are the body-undertaker.
```Idleness,
You are arrogant within,Abhorrent without.
```Idleness,
You do nothing for the world,Yet you secretly and openly desire
World-attention, world-appreciation,World-admiration and even
World-adoration! ```Idleness,
You want everythingFor the asking
Inside your emptyBody-hole.
```Idleness,
Your inner life, if you have any,Is all sadness.
Your outer life, if you have any,Is all bitterness.
```Idleness,
To our wide surprise,Futility-luxury
You can always afford. ```Idleness,
You constantly ask timeNot to look at you.
```Idleness,
Time does not wantTo be snubbed by you.
Therefore,It does not approach you.
```Idleness,
You are absolutely certainThat doomsday will never be able
To strike you. ```Idleness,
Your eyes do not evenTry to hide
Their envy-look. ```Idleness,
When are you going to realiseThat yours is the loneliest existence
In the entire world? ```Idleness,
In stupidityNobody can equal you.
You do not careTo cross the finish line.
Not only that,You do not even care
To be at the starting line. ```Idleness,
While voraciously eating,You complacently hear
Others' victory-horn. ```Idleness,
Your beyond-repair brainIs adorning the abysmal abyss!
```Idleness,
You are at onceFrustration-reservoir
And frustration-generator. ```Idleness,
You are a slow poison-enjoyer. ```Idleness,
You do not want to beAn aspiration-student,
But you do want to beA God-realisation-professor!
```Idleness,
You have taken the surrender-wayTo self-annihilation
And not self-perfection. ```Idleness,
In vainThe unconditional affection-world
Tries to please you.In vain
The unconditional dedication-worldTries to please you.
```Idleness,
Secretly you treasure,Openly you treasure
Displeasure-breath. ```Idleness,
Yesterday I saw you mumbling.Today I am seeing you fumbling.
Tomorrow I shall see you crumbling! ```Idleness,
You want the whole worldTo love you.
Without being loveable,How can you be loved?
Can you not see that the worldHesitates for a very long time
Before it condescendsTo love you?
```Idleness,
Unless and untilYou seriously and fearlessly
Look at yourself,Your happiness-dream
Will always remainA far cry.
```Idleness,
Can you not seeThat your joyless and godless days
Have neither a beginningNor an end?
```Idleness,
You do not valueGod's Concern.
You do not valueGod's Compassion.
You do not even valueGod's Forgiveness.
You just value your mind'sHappiness-hallucination.
```Idleness,
When will you be awareOf the undeniable fact
That unawarenessHas befriended you,
UnwillingnessHas befriended you
And, in a broad sense,Stupidity and futility both
Have inescapablyBefriended you?
```Idleness,
Time is our master.Our aspiration, dedication,
Self-giving-everything-We have surrendered
To the eye of time.But you want time
To helplessly surrenderTo your every whim!
```Idleness,
Who else is an inevitable victimOf self-doubt,
If not you? ```Idleness,
An insatiable hunger you haveFor world-praise.
But you want to do nothing,Absolutely nothing,
For the world. ```Idleness,
Strangely enough,Quite often you are enamoured
Of what you haveAnd what you are.
What you haveIs nothing short of stupidity,
And what you areIs nothing short of futility.
```Idleness,
A seeker devotedly enjoysA full-time God-job.
You enjoy a full-timeSelf-indulgence-job.
```Idleness,
Never do you wantTo please God.
Never do you wantTo love God.
Never do you wantTo serve and fulfil God
In God's own Way.Therefore, it is no wonder
That your mind is bound by sinAnd your heart is bound by guilt!
```Idleness,
Are you not afraid ofGod's Silence-Thunder-Eye,
As we all are? ```Idleness,
When God asks youTo do something,
You always ask GodTo show you how to do it.
While He is showing youHow to do it,
You purposely fall intoAnd enjoy
A deep and never-ending sleep. ```Idleness,
How successfully you hideYour outer aggression
And your inner retrogressionFrom us!
```Idleness,
Ignorance-nightIs our partial possessor,
But your full possessor. ```Idleness says to dynamism,
"For God's sake,You don't have to shed tears
For me."Dynamism says to idleness,
"My friend, it is too late!I can't help it."
```Idleness says to dynamism,
"Why do you so peculiarlyLook at me?
Do you think I amDeplorably pathetic?"
Dynamism says to idleness,
"Unfortunately,You are absolutely right.
But do not worry.I am sleeplessly and unconditionally
Sympathetic." ```Dynamism says to idleness,
"Wake up!Stand up!
Walk up and down!When are you going to be wise?"
Idleness says to dynamism,
"Shut up, shut up!Slow down, slow down!
When are you going to be careful?" ```Idleness says to dynamism,
"Let us bury our past criticismsOnce and for all.
I do not want to remainShattered by my fate's blow
Anymore." ```Dynamism says to idleness,
"My friend, my dear friend,My oneness-friend,
Do not build towersWithout a foundation
Anymore.Do not trust tomorrow.
Tomorrow is an old and expertDeceiver.
It is high time for youTo leave the land
Of self-made fools.Happily look every morning
At the rising sun.Hope, without fail,
Will be your guardian angel.God is showering upon you
His Heaven-Heart-Forgiveness-Blossoms.Just place yourself at His Feet
With your mind's prayerful readiness,Your heart's soulful willingness
And your life's cheerful eagerness." ```From:Sri Chinmoy,Idleness: the loneliest existence in the entire world, Agni Press, 1994
