Question: Is a parent responsible for a child's aspiration?
Sri Chinmoy: Yes, parents are always responsible for a child’s aspiration. From the very beginning the parents can read the child books about God. The parents can also teach the child to read, and give the child divine books to read himself. The parents must teach the child how to pray and how to meditate and see that the child’s friends are also spiritual. Children must be taught by the parents. If the parents don’t teach the children that milk is good, how else will the children know? A day will come when the children may find out that something else is more nourishing or more delicious, and then they can choose that. But at the beginning parents must tell children how to pray and meditate, and later, if the children find out something else that they like better, then they can make the choice themselves.
