Spiritual perfection
To perfect our human life, by far the greatest necessity is our soul’s delight. When we live in the physical, the teeming clouds of desire are natural, necessary and inevitable. When we live in the soul, the ever-mounting flames of aspiration are natural, necessary and inevitable. When we live in the soul, we spontaneously cultivate God. His Peace, Bliss and Power become ours, absolutely ours and we grow into spiritual perfection. This perfection is at once our divine heritage in a human body and our heavenly birthright on earthly soil.
The human in us must live under the sheltering wings of the soul. The divine in us must soar into the Beyond with the flying wings of the soul. The human in us must eventually need transformation. The divine in us must eventually need manifestation.
Perfection is what I have inherited from God in my inner life. Transformation is what I have inherited from God in my outer life.
What is perfection? Perfection is realisation. Perfection is manifestation. Perfection in the inner world means realisation. Perfection in the outer world means manifestation. A seeker is a fusion of individuality and personality. When a seeker carries his selfless individuality into the highest vision of Reality and offers his all-loving personality to the Absolute Beyond, he achieves perfection in the world of Infinity’s Eternity.
Some people say that perfection exists neither in Heaven nor on earth. I cannot see eye to eye with them. Perfection does exist both in Heaven and on earth. The very cry of earth is perfection. The very smile of Heaven is perfection. Earth’s soulful cry and Heaven’s glowing smile must go together. Then only will satisfaction dawn on God’s Face.
When earth cries we must not think that earth is inferior to Heaven, and when Heaven smiles we must not think that Heaven is superior to earth. No, it is not so. It is God, the growing man, who cries in and through earth to realise all that he can eventually be. And it is again God, the fulfilled man, who smiles in and through Heaven in realising what he already is.
Complete and total perfection will come about only when we feel that our perfection is no perfection if the rest of humanity remains imperfect. If we call ourselves children of God, then others are also children of God. They may be travelling a few miles behind us, or they may be fast asleep. But they must reach the Goal before perfect Perfection can dawn on earth. We will try to conquer our fear, our doubt, our jealousy and other negative forces. But when we go deep within, after we have achieved what we want for ourselves, we will feel that only our limited self has been satisfied. Our larger self, which is humanity entire, is far, far from perfection. So we will try to remove fear, doubt, anxiety, worries and other undivine forces from humanity.
In our path we feel that perfection has to be total and integral. We know that we have imperfection in our nature, and at the same time we have limited perfection. If the imperfection right now looms large, we have to brave that imperfection and transform it into perfection. Through our conscious prayer, meditation, concentration and contemplation, the imperfection of the past can be perfected, and the darkness of yesterday can be transformed into Light.
