Sri Chinmoy: Purity or impurity is not a direct result of the consciousness from which you are operating. On the contrary, it is purity or impurity that enters into the consciousness. When purity enters, consciousness is elevated; when impurity enters, consciousness descends. Consciousness sees impurity as a culprit and purity as a friend. Consciousness is affected by the presence of purity or impurity, but consciousness does not affect purity or impurity.
